The Future of Food Banking
Taking inspiration from supermarkets, food pantries are making it easier for families to select food items with digital technology.
According to Jay Riggs, Executive Director of the WIll Play For Food Foundation, "Without technology, we are simply giving away fish, instead of teaching people to fish. If we do have methods of data colletcion, we can not help people eat healthy, let alone connect them to the necessary serivces past food that they need to get on the path to self-sustainability", Riggs added.
At various locations across the country, families can create a digital shopping list (at home or the pantry) of items they enjoy and pick-up their order at their convenience.
This technology is saving time for the recipient, allowing them to spend less time searching for food and more time to work on thier education and employement situations. This new approach is providing pantries with opportunities to serve more people and provide additional services, like nutrition coaching and meal planning assistance.
Will Play For Food Foundation is proud to partner with these food pantries as they implement this new use of technology and help bring America closer to Ending Hunger Now.
